Class 150 F316/L Stainless Steel Lap Joint, Flat-Face Flange
Class 150 F316/L Stainless Steel Lap Joint Flat-Face Flange
The Class 150 F316/L Stainless Steel Lap Joint Flat-Face Flange manufactured to ASME A/SA182 and ASME B16.5 requirements provides a versatile, corrosion-resistant connection for demanding industrial piping systems. Designed for use with a compatible lap joint stub end, this flange allows convenient bolt-hole alignment while providing dependable mechanical strength and easy system disassembly.
ASME A/SA182 F316/L Stainless Steel
ASTM A182 / ASME SA-182 F316/F316L stainless steel provides excellent mechanical strength, durability, and corrosion resistance. The molybdenum content in F316/F316L improves resistance to pitting and corrosion in many chloride-containing environments compared with F304 stainless steel.
The lower carbon content of F316L stainless steel helps minimize carbide precipitation associated with welding, making it particularly useful in welded stainless steel piping assemblies.
Class 150 Lap Joint Flange Design
A lap joint flange functions as a backing flange behind a compatible stub end. The flange can rotate around the stub end, allowing bolt holes to be aligned easily with the mating flange during installation.
This design is particularly useful in piping systems requiring frequent inspection, cleaning, maintenance, dismantling, or precise flange alignment. Applications include chemical processing, food and beverage, pharmaceutical manufacturing, water treatment, marine service, utilities, and industrial process piping.
The Class 150 designation identifies an ASME pressure class, not a maximum working pressure of exactly 150 PSI. Allowable pressure depends on material, size, temperature, and applicable pressure-temperature ratings.
Flat-Face Lap Joint Construction
The flat-face (FF) lap joint flange provides a flat bearing surface against the back of the stub end. The stub end provides the gasket seating surface and contacts the process fluid, while the backing flange supplies the bolting force.
ASME B16.5 establishes applicable dimensional, facing, bolting, tolerance, and pressure-temperature requirements.
Selecting an F316/L Lap Joint Flange
When ordering, verify nominal pipe size, F316/F316L material, Class 150 rating, flat-face configuration, compatible stub end, ASME A/SA182 specification, ASME B16.5 requirements, gasket, bolting, temperature, process media, and corrosion requirements.
