Class 1500 Forged Carbon Steel Weld Neck, Raised-Face Flange for Schedule 40 Pipe

Class 1500 A/SA105 Weld Neck Raised-Face Flange for Schedule 40 Pipe

The Class 1500 ASME A/SA105 Forged Carbon Steel Weld Neck Raised-Face Flange for Schedule 40 Pipe, manufactured to ASME B16.5, provides a strong, permanent connection for demanding high-pressure industrial piping systems. Its tapered weld neck, forged carbon steel construction, and raised-face sealing surface provide excellent strength, durability, and dependable sealing performance for critical process piping applications.

ASTM A105 / ASME SA-105 Forged Carbon Steel

Manufactured from ASTM A105 / ASME SA-105 forged carbon steel, this Class 1500 weld neck flange provides excellent mechanical strength, toughness, and long-term durability. A/SA105 is widely specified for pressure-containing piping components used in oil and gas, petroleum refining, petrochemical processing, chemical plants, power generation, manufacturing, utilities, and high-pressure industrial process piping systems.

Weld Neck Design for Schedule 40 Pipe

A weld neck flange features a long, tapered hub that creates a gradual transition between the flange body and connecting pipe. The flange is butt welded directly to the pipe, producing a strong permanent connection while helping distribute mechanical stresses through the tapered hub.

For Schedule 40 pipe, the flange bore can be selected or machined to correspond with the pipe wall thickness and inside diameter, helping provide proper internal alignment and a smoother transition through the welded connection.

Class 1500 Raised-Face Construction

The Class 1500 designation identifies an ASME pressure class rather than a maximum working pressure of 1500 PSI. Actual allowable pressure depends on material, flange size, operating temperature, and applicable pressure-temperature ratings.

The raised-face (RF) design features an elevated gasket seating area that concentrates bolting force over the gasket, helping establish a reliable seal between compatible mating flanges.

ASME B16.5 Flange Requirements

ASME B16.5 establishes applicable requirements for flange dimensions, facings, bolt patterns, tolerances, and pressure-temperature ratings.

When ordering, verify nominal pipe size, Schedule 40 bore, Class 1500 rating, A/SA105 material, raised face, ASME B16.5 requirements, gasket selection, bolting, welding procedures, and service conditions.
