Weld Neck Design for Schedule XH Pipe

A weld neck flange incorporates a long, tapered hub that creates a gradual transition between the flange body and connecting pipe. The flange is butt welded directly to the pipe, producing a strong permanent connection while helping distribute mechanical stresses through the tapered hub.

For Schedule XH (Extra Heavy) pipe, the flange bore can be selected or machined to correspond with the pipe wall thickness and inside diameter. Compared with standard-wall pipe of the same nominal pipe size, XH pipe generally has a thicker wall and smaller inside diameter while maintaining the same outside diameter.

Class 1500 Raised-Face Construction

The Class 1500 designation represents an ASME pressure class, not a maximum working pressure of 1500 PSI. Actual allowable pressure depends on material, size, temperature, and applicable pressure-temperature ratings.
