Class 1500 Forged Carbon Steel Socket Weld, Raised-Face Flange for Schedule 160 Pipe
Class 1500 A/SA105 Socket Weld Raised-Face Flange for Schedule 160 Pipe
The Class 1500 ASME A/SA105 Forged Carbon Steel Socket Weld Raised-Face Flange for Schedule 160 Pipe, manufactured to ASME B16.5, provides a strong, compact connection for demanding high-pressure industrial piping systems. Combining forged carbon steel construction, a precision-machined socket, and raised-face sealing surface, this flange delivers excellent strength, durability, and dependable performance for heavy-wall Schedule 160 piping applications.
ASTM A105 / ASME SA-105 Forged Carbon Steel
Manufactured from ASTM A105 / ASME SA-105 forged carbon steel, this Class 1500 socket weld flange provides excellent mechanical strength, toughness, and long-term durability. A/SA105 forged steel is widely specified for pressure-containing piping components used in oil and gas, petroleum refining, petrochemical processing, chemical plants, power generation, manufacturing, utilities, and high-pressure industrial process piping systems.
Socket Weld Design for Schedule 160 Pipe
A socket weld flange incorporates a recessed socket designed to receive the outside diameter of the connecting pipe. The Schedule 160 pipe is inserted into the socket, positioned with the required installation clearance, and permanently secured using an external fillet weld according to the applicable welding procedure.
Schedule 160 is a heavy-wall pipe configuration. For the same nominal pipe size, Schedule 160 generally has a thicker wall and smaller inside diameter than Schedule 40 pipe while maintaining the same outside diameter. The flange socket is sized to accept the corresponding nominal pipe outside diameter.
Class 1500 Raised-Face Construction
The Class 1500 designation represents an ASME pressure class rather than a maximum working pressure of 1500 PSI. Actual allowable pressure depends on material, size, temperature, and applicable pressure-temperature ratings.
The raised-face (RF) design concentrates bolting force over the elevated gasket seating area, helping establish a dependable seal between compatible mating flanges.
ASME B16.5 Flange Requirements
ASME B16.5 establishes applicable flange dimensions, facings, bolt patterns, tolerances, and pressure-temperature ratings.
When ordering, verify nominal pipe size, Schedule 160 dimensions, socket size, Class 1500 rating, A/SA105 material, raised face, ASME B16.5 requirements, gasket selection, bolting, welding procedures, and service conditions.
