Founded in 1958 in Enschede, Netherlands, Flexovit began as a pioneer in manufacturing cutting-off and grinding wheels. The name "Flexovit" blends elements of its core identity: Flex (angle grinder in Dutch), O (the wheel’s circular shape), and Vit (short for vitesse, meaning speed in French). By the early 1960s, Flexovit had already gained significant traction across Europe thanks to its commitment to performance and quality.

In 1977, Flexovit USA was established in Angola, New York, by Jay Iliohan. That summer, the company produced its first abrasives locally, marking the beginning of a decades-long commitment to American manufacturing. A major facility expansion in 1995 created a 100,000 sq. ft. complex, and Flexovit became the first North American abrasives manufacturer to earn ISO Quality Certification.

Further investment came in 2016, when the Angola plant was modernized with advanced automation and robotics, boosting efficiency and product consistency.
