Founded in 1958 in Enschede, Netherlands, by Wim Ebbink, Flexovit began as a manufacturer of cutting-off and grinding wheels. The brand name "Flexovit" combines "Flex" (Dutch for angle grinder), "O" (representing the wheel's round shape), and "Vit" (short for "vitesse," meaning speed in French) . By 1960, Flexovit had expanded its reach across Europe, driven by a commitment to quality and innovation.
In 1977, Flexovit USA was established in Angola, New York, by Jay Iliohan. Since producing its first wheels that summer, the company has remained dedicated to manufacturing top-tier, internationally competitive industrial abrasives in the USA . A significant expansion in 1995 resulted in a 100,000 sq. ft. complex, and that same year, Flexovit became the first North American abrasives manufacturer to achieve ISO Quality Certification. In 2016, the Angola facility was modernized with advanced automation and robotics, enhancing production capabilities.
